Our Vision and Charter

Student ChoirMentone Girls’ Secondary College has a proud tradition of encouraging girls to achieve their full potential. Miss Nina Carr, the founding Headmistress in 1955, was passionately committed to the education of girls and encouraged high aspirations and expectations in her students.

This proud tradition is both valued and continued through the vision of the present School Council and Principal.

Vision

Mentone Girls’ Secondary College will provide the broadest possible educational opportunities to prepare all its students for success in their chosen fields.

In tomorrow’s world girls with further qualifications and training will have the widest choices in life. The College prepares girls for tertiary study, training and lifelong education. It judges its success not at the end of Year 12 but three to five years later, when most girls have completed further education.

Girls who put their learning to work in contributions to the community will enrich their own, and others, quality of life. The College helps girls develop as strong independent women who are good citizens and can contribute to community well-being. The reach and ambition of student’s community participation and their involvement in relationship-building and networking, in and beyond the College, will be the measure of success in this area.

From Year 7 – 12, girls are expected to strive towards higher achievements, be innovative, take measured risks and make responsible judgements. Their challenge is to meet their own personal standards of excellence and also attain public standards of excellence in their chosen pathways, occupations and communities.

At each year level, the College program will support students as they develop the skills, understandings and values necessary for success. With strong school relationships based in mutual respect, the College prepares tomorrow’s success stories.
