Careers/Student Pathways

This section includes information about:

Careers Centre

The College has a well-resourced Careers Centre which is managed by the Student Pathways Co-ordinator Mr. Greg Feben. There are materials such as university and TAFE handbooks and pamphlets, general course and career information sorted into interest categories, Job Guides, VTAC Guides, and computers for access to resources such as vocational assessment programs, OZJAC, and the worldwide web. The Careers Centre is used primarily by students in Years 10 to 12 to support them in making informed choices about their VCE programs and post-school pathways.

Students in Year 9 undertake a vocational assessment to help them with their decisions for work experience which occurs in Year 10. Year 11 and 12 students also have the opportunity to undertake additional work experience when requested.

Student Pathways

Managed Individual Pathways are implemented for all students in Years 10, 11 and 12. Year 10 students are mentored by their SOSE teacher, whilst Year 11 and 12 students are mentored by a staff member who is either from the Principal class or is a Leading Teacher at the College.

The mentoring involves helping each student establish their own Pathway Plan which includes:

  • A Personal profile – subjects studied, home situation, time allocation to homework, casual employment, general health, work experience, co-curricular activities, hobbies/interests
  • Goal setting – education/training/career, relationships/family/community, health/wellbeing, leisure/recreation, personal development/lifeskills

Course/career counselling is available for all students, including advice at the time of change of preferences and offer times with the Student Pathways Co-ordinator.
