Instrumental Music Program
A formal music education is proven to lead to better academic results, improved confidence and self-esteem, and personal growth and social development. Our College is very proud of its rich music program starting with the Band & String ensemble forms in Year 7.
In 2026, students in the Enhancement Program learned a musical instrument and participated in a band or string ensemble. From 2027, participation in the Instrumental Music and Band Program will be optional for students in the Enhancement Program.
Year 7 and 8 students learning brass, woodwind, percussion or strings can elect to be in a music specialist class where all of their classmates also learn musical instruments.
In 2027, this music specialist class may also operate as a combined Enhancement and Music Specialist class, or as a Music Specialist class only. This model supports strong learning outcomes, with students often achieving higher results when learning alongside like-minded peers.
Instrumental Music tuition is offered across the full range of orchestral and band instruments:
- Woodwinds: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Bassoon
- Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba
- Strings: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Electric Bass
- Percussion: Includes drum kit and other percussion instruments
- Voice: Classical and Contemporary (note: voice is not included in the Music specialist class)
